In an effort to prevent food scarcity, the Anambra State Government has distributed cassava cuttings, yam seedlings and other seedlings for planting.
The State Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Nnamdi Mekor, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Awka on Thursday.

Mekor said the move followed the flood that swept away farmlands in different communities in the state.
According to him, the state government is also making efforts to supply fertiliser to farmers for enhanced food production in 2013.
“We are working with the state government to provide agricultural input and other forms of assistance to the farming population for immediate planting as soon as the flooding recedes.
“The aim is to prevent food crisis as a consequence of the flooding in different farming communities in the state,” Mekor said.
