Cross river batch C corp members round up their service year: We lost 4 corpers.

Cross-River - The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Cross River said on Thursday that  four members of the 2011 Batch C died during the service year.

The NYSC Coordinator, Mr Nkereke Ibangha, disclosed this at the passing out ceremony of the batch in Calabar.

Ibangha said the NYSC was saddened at the loss, but that it took solace in the belief that the deceased died in service to their fatherland.

He said of 1,997 members who passed out at the ceremony, 20 had distinguished themselves and won the state governor’s award.

He added that 24 won the state governing board chairman’s award.

He said two corps members would have their service year extended for failing to live up to expectation.

Ibangha urged the out-going corps members to maintain the discipline acquired during their service year because it would stand them in good stead in the future.

The Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mr Patrick Ugbe, urged the corps members to utilise their creative and productive capacities for the benefit of the country.

Ugbe, who is also the Chairman of NYSC Governing Board, said the spirit of dedication, selflessness and patriotism would spur them to greater heights.
